Tom's Honda VFR - Five Stars Rack
The Five Stars racks are very nice. Good price too. There are weird rumors that Five Stars (or the distributor) are having trouble shipping orders. I hope they are still in business. I'm trying to get more info.
Installation isn't too hard, although the instructions are in German.
Start by removing the seat and rear body work. I've already removed the seat in this photo.
The passenger grab handles have to come off.
The grab handles have a single bolt, and a bushing. Save both. Tilt the handle up, and slide inwards off the mounting bar.
Here is a close up of the handle, bolt and washer/bushing.
The handle tilts and slides off.
There is another metal bushing underneath. Save it.
With everything removed, but with the rubber grommet in place.
Another view.
The light yellow connector needs to be unplugged.
Still plugged in...
The plug is on the left side, inside the rear body work. It is a little tricky to get to.
Overview of the plug and rear frame.
Finally, the plug is undone. It took some wiggling to get it off.
You have to remove the front mounting bolts on the outside of the body, and pop the body out of some clips. All carefully. With that done, gently spread the body work open at the front, and lift off.
Gently bending.
The entire tail light/rear cowling comes off.
The naked rear frame.
Yep, that's the rear brake reservoir. Check it before putting the body work on. The VFR takes DOT 4 brake fluid, which is special stuff. Don't use DOT 3.
The level is fine. This is really hard to see. I opened my up, only to discover that the lid gasket was pushing the fluid completely to the top. That's good.
