"VW Trends" magazine is great technical articles and wonderful
photo spreads. I've been subscribing for years. As a beginner, all the
articles filled in clues and answered questions I had about the Beetle.
Now that I've had a Bug for a few years, the technical articles, are
my favorite. Every issue has several photo spreads of Bugs, Buses, and
other air cooled VWs. Some are vintage, some are custom restos, some
are wild super-charged hot rods.
Technical articles vary from the mundane like adjusting valves, removing
door handles, or doing a brake job. Some more complex stuff is covered
like head liner installation. Once in a while there will be in-depth
multi-issue topics like engine rebuilding.
"VW Trends" is right around 100 pages per issue. I've typed
in the August 2003 table of contents below. "Hot
VWs" usually runs between 130 and 150 pages. That amounts extra
article or two, although "Hot VWs"
also costs a bit more.
I also subscribe to the other air cooled magazine "Dune
Buggies and Hot VWs". Both are great, but I think the editorial
quality of "VW Trends" is just a little better. If you only
get one magazine, I'd recommend "VW Trends". If you read every
article, and want the off-road reports, then "Hot
VWs" is probably better.
